A masterpiece. Simply a work of art. NIGHT OF THE CREEPS might just be one of the cheesiest, most entertaining horror films ever made. Rent it. Love it. Live it.
O.K., here's the set-up: there are these two roommates in some random college where getting drunk is all that matters. They go to a party, one of them sees a woman and falls in love. Problem is, she's got a boyfriend. Not just any boyfriend, but a "Carter Prescott" type frat guy who likes to sit around in Izods jugging warm beer with his brothers. So, to impress her, the two roommates try to join the frat. As an initiation they gotta go mess around with some top-secret lab.
In the lab, they find a frozen dude who they wake up, only to find he's been infected with all these creepy crawling things from outer space. Soon, the crawlies get out of the lab and all hell breaks loose. It's up to the roommates and a determined cop to stop the evil.
Sounds pretty formulaic, and it is. But damn, is it funny! It revels in the stereotypes which it promotes. It knows it's a bad movie and even pays tribute to this fact by having PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE play on a TV in one scene.
There's also this hilarious character of a cop, played by one of those character actors whose name you don't know, but whose face you recognize. Most importantly, it has one of the greatest lines in film history, spoken by the cop to a roomful of sorority sisters awaiting their dates for the formal: "Well, girls I have good news and bad news. The good news is: your dates are here. The bad news is: they're dead." Genius!!!!! NIGHT OF THE CREEPS gets a well deserved **** out of 4
